Yemen - Official Fees Increased and Sub-Classification Abolished

Official Fees for trademark transactions have been increased with effect from October 01, 2011. The fees of procedures are affected by the new increase by almost 150%. However, our professional fees for Yemen remain unchanged. A similar increase was issued in respect of industrial designs matters.

Pursuant to the new implementing regulations, the sub-classification system, which was followed by the Yemeni Trademark Office, has now been abolished. A trademark may now be registered in Yemen in respect of an entire class heading of goods or services. However, class 33 of Nice Classification, remains deleted and no trademark registration is allowed in respect of alcoholic drinks.
