Oman - Individuals Still Denied Trademark Registration

Although the Federal Trademark Law of Oman has come into force since 2008, the Omani Trademark Office still refuses to grant trademark registrations to individuals (natural persons).

The Omani Trademark Office position in this respect is based on its understanding that the law does not contain an express provision enabling individuals to own trademark registrations in Oman. The Trademark Office interprets the law as limiting such rights to corporates and business establishments.

We are aware of attempts being made by leading IP firms and lawyers in Oman to convince the Trademark Office officials to change their mind but so far all such efforts have not brought about a positive result.
